Raised Dinosaur Trackway / Multi-Species / Early Jurassic
Age: 200 Million Years Old
Location: Connecticut River Valley, Connecticut
Species: Unknown Theropods & Batrachopus (small, Early crocodilians)
Recently and legally collected in private property along the Connecticut River Valley. This is the fossil impressions of a Theropod (raptor) that existed some 200 Million Years Ago. The species that made these tracks is relatively unknown to science, but it can be said safely that these tracks were made by at least two species when comparing the size and shape. I wonder where they were off to? There are also some small four-toed footprints called Batrachopus which were made by small, early crocodilians.
These are Raised impressions which are created when new Sediments cover the original impressions and harden within them. On occasion when you split this Jurassic shale, you will get both the original negative impressions as well as these Raised casts. These tracks have been lightly polished with a sealant to help pop them out. The sealant May be scrubbed off so the fossil can revert to its original state.
